I cannot be the only one tired of people tell us that Blurred lines is degrading to women. You don’t think I don’t know that? you don’t think we all don’t know that? Earlier this week I saw a post saying ‘Stop listening to blurred lines’.
How about no? Not everything is about Feminism! And not everything can be solved through feminism! You really think that people are going to stop listening to the damn song? It may be a song about degrading women and treating them like animals and telling them they ‘know they want it’ but it’s a damn catchy song and no amount of pleading on your part is going to stop people from listening to it.
There are more important things to focus on as a feminist. How about work equality? How about political equality? How about working our damn asses off to prove we are as good as men at anything. Once we get the respect we deserve from men in the workplace and in the actual law, the respect will come in songs, tv, film.
We’ve seen it with Miley these past few weeks. Apparently, she isn’t allowed to express her views in music video by getting naked cus that makes her a hoe. Yet, Robin Thicke and many other music stars, can have naked girls in their video cus the girls are anonymous unlike miley, this is apparently acceptable.
Get your priorities right! Change our culture and the lyrics will change themselves!
